Insulation Before & After in Houston, TX

Photos don’t exaggerate. A Houston attic in August is either a heat trap or a barrier, and the difference shows up in your utility bill before you ever see it. These before-and-after jobs from around the city show what changed, why we chose the material we did, and what the homeowner noticed afterward. We’re sharing them because seeing the work beats any claim we could make.

Blown-In Fiberglass Attic Topping in Katy

Before: thin, settled fiberglass batts in a 1,400 sq ft attic. After: fresh GreenFiber blown-in blanket at R-38.

The problem: a mid-90s home with original R-19 batts that had compressed to about R-11 in places. The upstairs ran six degrees warmer than downstairs every afternoon. We air-sealed the top plates and can lights, then blew GreenFiber cellulose to R-38 across the whole attic floor. The result: the homeowner called us three weeks later to say the upstairs thermostat finally held even with the old single-pane windows still in.

Open-Cell Spray Foam on a Vented Attic Roof Deck in The Heights

Before: exposed ductwork baking in a vented attic. After: Icynene open-cell foam direct-applied to the roofline.

The problem: a 1920s bungalow with the HVAC ducts and air handler sitting in a 130-degree attic. Every bit of cooled air fought the heat before it reached the rooms. We foamed the roof deck with Icynene open-cell, moving the thermal boundary to the roofline. The result: the attic now stays within eight degrees of the living space, and the AC cycles at a normal rate instead of running constant through July.

Attic Air Sealing and Insulation Reset in Pearland

Before: gaps around plumbing chases, recessed lights, and a patchy fiberglass layer. After: sealed penetrations and a uniform Knauf blown-in blanket.

The problem: a well-built home that still leaked conditioned air through two dozen attic penetrations. The homeowners complained about dust and a bedroom that never cooled. We sealed every chase, plate seam, and light box we could reach, then blew Knauf fiberglass to R-44. The result: the dust settled within a month, and the problem bedroom dropped four degrees during the afternoon peak. This is the job where we kept the Kingswell promise on full display: the written price covered every penetration, with no upcharge when we found six more than expected.

Closed-Cell Spray Foam in a Knee-Wall Bonus Room in Cypress

Before: uninsulated knee walls and a bedroom over the garage that never got comfortable. After: Demilec closed-cell foam filling the full cavity.

The problem: a bonus room over the garage with R-13 batts in the knee walls that were falling out and letting garage heat pour through the wall cavities. The room was usable maybe nine months a year. We pulled the failing batts and applied Demilec closed-cell to the knee walls and the garage ceiling below. The result: the room now holds temperature year-round, and the homeowners turned it into a permanent home office. Glenn Hartley walked this one personally because the cavity access was tight enough that the crew wanted a second set of eyes on the foam depth.

Rockwool Sound Control Between a Home Theater and Nursery in Sugar Land

Before: a hollow interior wall with zero acoustic treatment. After: Rockwool Safe’n’Sound batts filling the shared wall cavity.

The problem: a new build where the media room shares a wall with the nursery. The homeowners could hear the subwoofer through the wall at half volume. We pulled the drywall on the shared wall, filled the cavity with Rockwool Safe’n’Sound, and reinstalled the drywall. The result: the low-end rumble dropped dramatically, and the homeowners said the nursery finally stays quiet during movie nights. This is a smaller job, but it’s the kind of fix that changes how a family actually lives in their house.

Owens Corning Attic Re-Insulation After a Roof Leak in Tomball

Before: water-damaged, matted insulation with mold present. After: full removal, sanitizing, and fresh Owens Corning blown-in fiberglass.

The problem: a roof leak that had gone unnoticed until a water spot appeared on the ceiling. By then, a section of the attic insulation was matted down and starting to mold. We removed the damaged material, sanitized the affected decking, and re-insulated the entire attic so the R-value would be consistent across the house. The result: the homeowners got a clean attic and consistent coverage, with a written guarantee covering the new work for 365 days. If anything fails in that window, we come back at no charge.
